Hello Students (especially Political Science Majors),

I invite you to take my online course Intro Political Philosophy (Philosophy 1170 080 First Summer Session) or (Philosophy 1170 080 Second Summer Session).  Taking this course is a requirement for Political Science Majors, but it provides an interesting opportunity for other majors as well, including Criminal Justice, History, Literature and Philosophy among others.

It is five-week course covering, in historical order, such Political Philosophers as Socrates, Plato, John Locke, Martin Luther King, Mary Wollstonecraft and Karl Marx (there are 15 in all).  I will provide a written lecture of about 5-10 pages for each thinker. There is also a text book you will use to read these thinkers writings in their original form.  For three of the five weeks, I ask you to submit a short (2-2 1/2) page answer to a prompt that I will provide.  There will be two five page essay questions you will need to answer for your Midterm and Final the other two weeks of the course.  The grade for the course will be based on the letter grades for these five assignments.

One of the benefits of this course is that you can do it from any location where you have access to a computer and wi-fi.  In the past students have completed the course successfully not only from different places in the U.S, but also from a variety of locations from around the world.  I will be available via email to answer any and all of your questions.

I invite you to sign up for the course for either summer session.  Feel free to email me at the address below if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Dr. Nicholas J Caste
